ANIJAM Workshops
The Grand Rapids Community Media Center (GRCMC), and ASIFA members Gretchen Vinnedge and Lynn McKeown have been leading monthly community workshops called ANIJAM. These workshops were started, in part, because adults wanted to participate along with kids in our AWG workshops. Each month, inspired by a holiday, calendar date, or season, participants create short animations, from start to finish, in a single session. Conference Background:
We began this tradition in 1992, in response to requests from our members who live in a wide geographic region and wanted to come together for a longer event, to meet each other, inspire each other, and celebrate animation together. At our retreat, we have programs, screenings, workshops, and time for members to show their current work to each other. A long-standing tradition at our retreat is an opening reception with the welcome cake on the first evening. However, it seems like every year, somehow our cake gets dropped or damaged on the way to the opening reception. From now on, we decided to have welcome pies instead.
